Green Transition from Farm to Fork: Sustainable Food Systems through the European Green Deal and the WEFE Nexus Approach

Biography

Yusuf İslam Yavuz graduated in 2023 from the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, Department of Mechanical Engineering (Beykent University). During his undergraduate education, he actively participated in the Mechanical Engineering Club, where a robotic arm project earned second place in Turkey in the social innovation category at TEKNOFEST 2022.

Under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Tanay Sıdkı Uyar, he is conducting research on a decision support energy modeling study focused on Istanbul’s transition to 100% renewable energy. In this context, he works on the technical and economic analysis of urban-scale energy transformation scenarios, utilizing the ETSAP-TIMES modeling framework.

Since 2023, he has been serving as a field engineer in the FrontAg Nexus (PRIMA) project, supported by the European Union and carried out under the Renewable Energy Association EUROSOLAR Turkey. In this role, he takes part in the implementation of hydroponic, aquaponic, and insect-based production systems to promote climate-smart and water-efficient agricultural technologies, while also contributing to regional sustainability efforts within the WEFE (Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems) Nexus framework.
