Abstract

For the purpose of creating a balanced portfolio in electricity production, it is important to increase the share of domestic and renewable energy resources and the diversity of resources in total electricity generation. With the Renewable Energy Resource Zone (RE-Zone or YEKA) model, the cost of electricity purchased from renewable energy generation facilities will be reduced and the development of domestic production and the capacity of qualified human resources in renewable energy technologies will be increased. The Regulation on Renewable Energy Resource Areas was published dated 09/10/2016. With this regulation, a new investment model has been implemented in the utilization of renewable energy resources.

In 2017, the Ministry organized a 1000 MW solar energy and 1000 MW wind energy Renewable Energy Resource Area (YEKA) competition. Four wind YEKA competitions, each with a power of 250 MW, were held in 2019. Also the preparations are going on for totally 1000 MW of small scale solar and 1000 MW wind YEKA competitions, which are planned to be held in second half of 2020 and first half of 2021, respectively.

With the Law No. 7226 published in the Official Gazette No: 31080, dated 26/03/2020, amendments were made in the Law No. 5346 to determine the ceiling price for YEKA competitions in Turkish Liras and within the scope of these changes, studies on small scale solar YEKA competition documents continue.
