Energy and Exergy Analysis of Combined Cooling System with Parabolic Solar Collector Using Phase Change Material
Abstract
Energy demand increases day by day in the World, but available energy resources is consumption. Due to the unregulated consumption of it, renewable energy resources are used widespread such as solar energy. Solar energy is wide range of thermal and electrical applications and parabolic solar collectors are widely used for power generation purposes.
Solar energy is not continuous source and this situation needs to storage applications. Energy storage applications for solar energy have high popularity in the thermal energy storage researches. Thermal energy storage applications have three branches; thermochemical, latent and sensible heat storage. Thermal storage of solar energy profits by latent heat. Latent heat storage applications make use of phase change materials.
Power plants that generate electrical energy from solar energy are designed with Organic Rankine Cycle because heat which is obtained by solar energy is enough for this cycle. Heat energy which is obtained from solar is not enough for Rankine Cycle. Organic Rankine Cycle systems use different fluids rather than water steam.
Vapor compression refrigerant cycle works with electrical energy. In this study, electrical energy of vapor compression refrigerant cycle system is provided by Organic Rankine Cycle and its required heat energy comes from parabolic solar collectors. Data comes from combined system are used for energy and exergy analysis. Results of energy and exergy analysis give information about system performance and efficiency.
