The Impact of Renewable Energy on Employment in Turkey
Abstract
Energy consumption constitutes a vital part of the everyday life of today’s human being. As the quantities of energy consumed increase day by day, topics such as energy efficiency and renewable energy become much more prominent. A review of the existing literature reveals that most studies focus on these two topics.
Considering the fact that fossil resources are being consumed at a great pace, the renewable energy has become a critical issue. Disproportionate consumption of energy sources, notably starting from the second half of the twentieth century, has brought about an elevated interest in renewable energy. It is widely accepted that in the field of renewable energy where advanced countries have already made significant progress, developing countries such as Turkey must put more effort to close the gap with developed countries.
Energy employment, one of the dimensions of renewable energy topic, is supposed to increase as the investment in energy sector grows. As a result of harmonisation of energy policies with energy investments and research on energy promoted by this harmony will pave the way for a considerable amount of energy employment. New investments in wind energy, solar energy, biomass and similar technologies will generate direct and indirect employment opportunities. Also referred to as green jobs, this segment of employment gradually grows into a distinctive job market, with the ability to develop and use its own technology. It is now clearer that an increase in employment of green-collars will put a positive impact on domestic economy, reducing unemployment. This study investigates workforce capacity created by green jobs in selected countries, as well as current situation in Turkey. It also makes an assessment of green employment capacity against various potential scenarios for the energy sector in line with our energy strategy under the 2023 vision.
Results obtained from the research, have been brought up the matters of the restrictive fossıl sources, the threat of the climate changes, environmental pollution and the losts getting cheaper make the countries stear them towards the renewable energy. In case of the renewable energy investment reach the target of 2023, it is estimated that approximately 2 million employment would occurred. It’s estimated that this employment foreseen for manufacturıng, consruction and maintenance activities will continue until 2030. Direct and indirect employment scenarios are included in the study.
Biyografi
Ahmet Özer KALİBER, 1977 yılında Kayseri’de doğdu. Profilo Anadolu Teknik Lisesi’ni bitirdikten sonra Marmara Üniversitesi Teknik Eğitim Fakültesinde okudu. Eğitim Yönetimi dalında Yükseklisans yaptı. Ortaokul ve lise öğrenimi sırasında yaz tatillerini elektronik ve bilgisayar firmalarında çalışarak geçirdi. 1995 yılında üniversite ile beraber elektronik güvenlik sistemleri alanında çalışmaya başladı. Teknoloji firmalarında stajyerlikten müdürlüğe kadar hemen her pozisyonda görev yaptı. 2005 yılında askere gittikten sonra özel sektörden kamu sektörüne geçerek 2006 yılında öğretmen olarak atandı. Halen Ataşehir-Dr. Nureddin Erk-Perihan Erk Teknik Lisesinde Müdür Yardımcısı olarak görev yapmakta olup okul-sanayi işbirliği kapsamında çeşitli protokoller yürütmektedir. Görev yaptığı okulda yenilenebilir enerji teknolojileri bölümünün açılmasını sağlamış ve bu alanda özel sektör firmaları ile ortak projeler geliştirilmesi için çalışmaktadır. Özellikle Güneş Enerjisi alanında nitelikli teknik eleman yetiştirilmesine yönelik çalışmalar kapsamında, ölçüm istasyonu, güneş enerjisi santralleri, tasarım atölyeleri ve solar deney setlerinin de bulunduğu gelişmiş laboratuvarların kurulmasını sağlamıştır. Aynı zamanda okulun tümünde enerji verimliliği sağlamaya yönelik projeler geliştirmektedir.
Evli ve bir çocuk babası olan Ahmet Özer KALİBER, kurs, seminer, hizmet içi eğitim ve sosyal programlar gibi çok sayıda etkinliğe katılmıştır. İlgi alanları anı kitapları ve Türk Sanat Müziği’dir.
